Stress and Your Health

In response to stress, your adrenal glands produce and regulate stress hormones such as Cortisol. Normally, when the stress dissipates, the glands have time to rest and recover, as well as, prepare for the next stressful event.

However, if your stress levels remain chronically high, such as in our demanding personal and professional schedules, your body will remain locked in a state of stress exhausting your Cortisol levels and diminishing your body’s ability to recover. This can lead to your adrenals becoming fatigued or “burned out”, resulting in an onset of symptoms such as:

  • Weight struggles
  • Fatigue
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • GI Issues
  • Depression

Inability to Lose Weight

Cortisol is a “glucocorticosteriod” and assists insulin in keeping your blood sugar stable. When cortisol is depleted your body will store fat instead of burning it leading to unwanted weight gain despite your exercise and diet attempts.

Fatigue

Cortisol is responsible for energy production. When your cortisol becomes low you lose the ability to feed your cells the energy required to function. This leads to fatigue and those mid-morning and afternoon “crashes”.

Hormone Imbalances

Cortisol is made from Progesterone so during high periods of stress your progesterone levels become depleted. This leads to infertility issues and PMS symptoms such as cramping, irritability, mood swings, and sweet cravings. Sex drive is also diminished.

In addition, the adrenal hormone DHEA is depleted and results in a drop of Estrogen. This leads to peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, memory problems, and mood swings.

GI Issues

High cortisol negatively affects the lining of your gut causing inflammation and leaky gut symptoms. As a result, you become more susceptible to bacterial and yeast overgrowth, as well as, parasitic infections. Bloating, constipation, heartburn and indigestion are common symptoms associated with a digestive tract affected by improper cortisol levels.

Depression

As a result of hormonal dysfunction due to cortisol imbalance, depression is likely to set in. Lack of energy and moods swings leave many women and men feeling helpless and hopeless. Serotonin, the calming brain neurotransmitter associated with depression, is actually primarily produced in the gut. As a result, when gut irritation occurs due to high cortisol levels, the cells that produce serotonin are compromised causing less of it to be produced. This results in depression symptoms.

Unique Testing

Discovering your cortisol levels is the first step in regaining your health! Our specialized saliva testing does just that. This allows us to design you a specific protocol using our proven natural approach to eliminate your symptoms for good!

In addition, we utilize unique testing to assess other systems of your body including your GI system, detoxification system, and hormonal system to make sure no stone is left unturned!

We have invested into proprietary software, Functional Assessment Questionnaire, that helps us evaluate your current symptoms and concerns and guides us with accurate lab recommendations. For more about this amazing software click HERE.

Total Health with a New Approach for Charlotte and Steele Creek Residents

Dr. Hunt Asks some important questions of interest to Charlotte residents - Chiropractor Charlotte Dr. Hunt Asks...

What's a side effect?
It may sound like a bonus; something extra, but chiropractors know it should more accurately called an "unintended effect," and "unwanted effect" or in some cases an "adverse effect." A pill can't come close to matching your body's ability to create and deliver the essential compounds it needs. That's when it's important to make sure your nervous system is working correctly—the purpose of chiropractic care!
Why do so many drugs require a prescription?
Because they can be dangerous? I chose a chiropractic career specifically because it avoids artificial means of pain relief. Our Charlotte chiropractic practice attracts health-conscious families that prefer a safe and natural solution. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
